Editors' Note: Players, and especially pitchers, often play for multiple different spring training "farm teams" during these back field contests, depending on throw days, rest, and who management wants to see on a given day. So don't put much weight on the current rosters.

Memphis 9 - New Orleans 0

  • CJ McElroy (CF): 3-5, 2 R, K, 2 SB
  • Nick Martini (RF): 3-4, R, 3B, BB
  • Arturo Reyes: 3 IP, H, 2 BB
  • Jayson Aquino: 2 IP, BB, 2K

Arturo Reyes is the other fast moving, low-ceiling pitcher the Cardinals plucked out of the Gonzaga rotation in the 2013 draft. He's also the other A. Reyes pitching prospect in the Card's system. When things are working for him, he avoids free passes and hard contact if not bats. He was able to ride that aversion to both strikeouts and walks across three levels all the way to AAA last year before he hit a bit of a wall as his BB and K rates began looking a little too similar. He'll likely start the season in AAA and should hang around there for the next couple of seasons on the fringes of the big league bullpen and rotation mix.

Springfield 3 - Jacksonville 3

  • Blake Drake (RF): 1-2, R, 2B
  • Jack Flaherty: 2.1 IP, 4H, ER, BB, 3K

Jack Flaherty was ranked the second best prospect in the Cardinals system by the red baron this offseason. Flaherty utilized his surprisingly deep arsenal to make a strong showing in the Midwest League in his first taste of full season ball. The Cardinals may challenge him with a placement in the pitcher friendly Florida State League, where he will have a chance to try out that four pitch mix against more advanced hitters.

Blake Drake is at least a 70 grade name.

Jupiter 2 - Palm Beach 1
  • Orlando Olivera (RF): 1-3, R, HR, RBI
  • Derian Gonzalez: 3 IP, 2 BB, 4 K
  • Sandy Alcantara: 2 IP, ER, BB, 2 K

Sandy Alcantara was in the "Just Missed" section of rb's prospect list. He has a big frame, with plenty of room to fill out and a big fastball with plenty of room in his repertoire for secondary stuff. The raw ingredients for an interesting pitching prospect are there, and at 20 years old he has some time to figure things out. He has done the extended spring training/complex league routine the last two seasons, so hopefully he gets a crack at full-season hitters this year.

Greensboro 3 - Peoria 0

  • Ricardo Bautista (RF): 1-3, 2B
  • Brennan Leitao: 2 IP, H, ER, 2 K
