The Cardinals keep moving closer and closer to Opening Day (three weeks from today), and the starters are getting through their second turns through the rotation. Jaime Garcia made it 3 2/3 innings in his last start, and Adam Wainwright did him one out better yesterday going four innings. Michael Wacha gets his turn today against the Washington Nationals.
Wacha's last start was not available on television, so it is a plus that this start will be available on MLB Network and MLB.tv. Wacha struggled to end the season, and a solid spring would go a long way towards returning to the very good pitcher he was for the bulk of last season.
In the Wainwright game, Tommy Pham hit a home run, but that was nothing compared to the home run barrage against the Mets. Brandon Moss, Carson Kelly, Randal Grichuk, and Jacob Wilson all hit home runs for the Cardinals.
Today, Kolten Wong continues his campaign to bat leadoff, Aledmys Diaz is at shortstop again, and after an impressive game Friday, 19-year-old Magneuris Sierra gets another start, this time in right field.
