The Cardinals spring keeps rolling along. The bad news this week was that Jhonny Peralta would be out for quite some time after surgery to his thumb. The good news was that Yadier Molina got in game action and Carlos Martinez made his first successful start. As for yesterday:
Winter Classic
The NHL announced that Busch Stadium would be home to a Blues game next season-Definitely check out the hype video in this link combining baseball and hockey. Will give you chills.
Expansion Draft
If expansion happened, who would the Cardinals keep?-this is an interesting exercise framed in the same way a list of the Cardinals with the most trade value would be framed. If the Cardinals could keep 15 players and only 15 players from being taken in a hypothetical expansion draft, which players should be kept?
Projections
Seung Hwan Oh-We ask you to project the stats of the Cardinals newest reliever. We also took suggestions for a new nickname.
Aledmys Diaz-After Jhonny Peralta went down, Diaz emerged as a candidate to takes his spot, thus a bonus projection yesterday.
We are almost to the end of the submission portion of the projections and will release the results beginning next week. Submissions are not yet closed, but feel free to submit projections on any (or all) players you like.
FanPost
In this Fanpost by community member CrimsonStorm94, the author explores the statistics of Kolten Wong and Randal Grichuk if they reach their ceilings this season.
If you have something to say, feel free to put it in a FanPost.
Cardinals v Braves
The Cardinals took on the Braves Friday. Matt Holliday played first base, Yadier Molina played catcher, Carlos Martinez made a positive return to the mound, and 19-year-old prospect Magneuris Sierra had a great game in center field and at the plate. Scouting reports say he can cover a lot of ground. See for yourself:
He threw it right on line to third.
As far as Martinez's shoulder? He seemed to be showing no ill effects.
Have a great Saturday.
