Cardinals news and notes: Wong, Martinez, Moss

One final look at the best sports highlight of 2016 (plus news and notes)

The year of 2016 is drawing to a close which means it is “best-of” time. To that end, yesterday essential Twitter follow @VanHicklestein rattled off some of his greatest hits and dropped this one (note: volume is necessary):

Take into account the wardrobe of the fan who interrupted the game; the good/bad (pending on perspective) timing that put his presence on the field in direct conflict with the ball in play; his lackadaisical yet methodic running; his single clap at the end of the clip as if to imply the decision was a rousing success; the Cardinals powder blue throw-backs (just gorgeous); and “oh my goodness gracious, what the heck?”. Add all that up and I declare this unequivocally the best sports highlight of 2016. Good luck to 2017 in topping that.

And here’s what you may have missed yesterday at VEB:

Kolten Wong

I wrote about Kolten Wong and his status not-so-clear status with the team.

Carlos Martinez

Through his Tsunami Waves Foundation, Carlos Martinez continues to do great work in the Dominican Republic and St. Louis. Lil Scooter has the details.

Brandon Moss

Ben Markham believes that Brandon Moss is shaping up to be the most reasonable option to fill out the outfield. I’m still spooked by Moss’ slump to close out 2016 but Ben makes a pretty convincing case here.

On a personal note, this will be my final post for 2016 and completes my first full year writing at VEB. It’s an honor to be associated with this site and all of the great writers here and I look forward to 2017. Have a safe and great New Year, everyone.
