Last night Edwin Encarnacion signed with Cleveland for what looks like at least $65 million in guaranteed money over three years. Whatever interest the Cardinals had in Encarnacion seemed to fizzle pretty quickly and most reports leading up to the signing indicated that only American League clubs were bidding high. Read into that what you will, but a few hours before the news broke VEB’s Ben Markham explained why he felt Encarnacion would be a bad fit for the Cardinals. Since the club was unwilling to outbid Cleveland they must have agreed.
Here’s what else you may have missed yesterday at VEB:
Adam Wainwright
Joe Schwarz made the case that Adam Wainwright would be better served in 2017 with a steadier usage of fastballs.
Braggin’ Rights
I tried to figure out which state, Illinois or Missouri, has birthed the better Cardinals team. My findings? Late December is a very slow stretch for baseball news.
Carlos Martinez
And Carlos Martinez did a great impression of the Cardinals front office when high-end free agents are up for grabs.
You won’t hear from me until after Christmas but I hope you and yours have a wonderful holiday season. And safe travels if you’re hitting the road.
