On Friday afternoon, the Glendale Desert Dogs took on the Peoria Javelinas in the 22nd and nineteenth games of the Arizona Fall League, respectively.

Desert Dogs 5, Javelinas 1

Austin Gomber (SP): 5.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 5 K

Corey Littrell (RP): 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Carson Kelly (DH): 2-4, 2 2Bs, 2 RBIs, 2 R, 1 BB

Paul DeJong (SS): 1-4, BB, K

Harrison Bader (LF): 1-5, RBI, K

A crooked number in the top of the first prominently served as the foundation for the Desert Dogs’ 5-1 victory over the Javelinas on Friday afternoon at the Peoria Sports Complex in Arizona. With the win, the ‘Dogs are 10-12 in the exhibition season.

Glendale jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a two-run double off the bat of Carson Kelly, who came around to score later in the frame to account for his team’s third run. The ‘Dogs inning ultimately caused Javelinas starter Tanner Scott’s outing to end prematurely, as the Orioles left-handed prospect was pulled after two innings.

The sturdy lead was plenty enough for Desert Dogs hurler Austin Gomber, a left-handed pitcher that has made great strides throughout his handful of starts in the Arizona Fall League. With nearly six innings of one-run ball -- 5 2/3, to be exact -- Gomber won his fourth game in as many decisions and dropped his earned run average to a cool 1.99 through 22 2/3 innings of work this fall.

In addition to Kelly and Gomber, Cardinals farm hands Corey Littrell, Paul DeJong, and Harrison Bader all appeared in Friday’s victory. Littrell pitched a scoreless inning, DeJong recorded a hit, and Bader drove in a run to contribute to the Dogs’ tenth win of the season.
