Cardinals News and Notes: Lou, Yadi, Kelly, and Turner

Yesterday’s VEB

MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates at St. Louis Cardinals Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

Here’s everything you missed yesterday at VEB:

A defense of Cardinals Hall of Famer Lou Brock: Craig takes on those who say Lou Brock shouldn’t be in the Hall of Fame.

The Cardinals should bid big on Justin Turner: I actually wrote this a month ago, but with the news that the Cardinals have interest in Justin Turner, Craig pulled it back up to the front page.

A mutually beneficial time share for Yadier Molina, Carson Kelly: Joe makes the case that there’s enough playing time for Yadi and Carson Kelly to be on the Opening Day roster in 2017.

Yadi to play in World Baseball Classic: I don’t really like that this is happening, with Yadi catching so many innings in 2016. Getting him a rare October off could have been a very small consolation for missing the playoffs. Instead this will up his innings caught further.

Still, it probably means a lot to Yadi personally, and baseball players are people, not just assets or laundry, so I guess you just have to be happy for him. His play over the years has brought us plenty to be happy about, so why begrudge him for doing something to make himself happy?

The Cardinals are embarking on a new challenge: My take on the Cardinals’ case of Brain-drain combined with a more competitive landscape.
