Arizona Fall League: Paul DeJong Records an RBI in Loss

Cardinals infielder provided one of few bright spots for Glendale on Monday.

Following an off day on Sunday, the Glendale Desert Dogs continued play on Monday with game against the Mesa Solar Sox.

Solar Sox 13, Desert Dogs 5

With four home runs and multiple crooked-number innings to their credit, the Solar Sox defeated the Desert Dogs with ease on Monday, 13-5.

The Solar Sox received home runs of Bradley Zimmer, Ian Happ, Brian Anderson, and Dexter Kjerstead, and Anderson and Kjerstead hit their long balls off Cardinals reliever Corey Littrell, who allowed four runs during an outing in which he recorded just two outs.

On the Desert Dogs’ offensive side, the key contributor of the day was Andrew Stevenson, who went 3-for-4 with a triple, walk, and two runs scored. Jason Martin and Paul DeJong each picked up an RBI, and Glendale’s other three runs scored on errors.

As far as other Cardinals go, Carson Kelly and Harrison Bader appeared in this game along with Littrell and DeJong. Kelly collected a couple of knocks on the day, and Bader laced a single and walked twice.

On Tuesday, the Desert Dogs will take on the Surprise Saguaros at 1:35 p.m. CT. In the contest, Twins hurler Stephen Gonsalves will take the ball for Surprise against Nationals prospect Austin Voth of Glendale.
