Cardinals news and notes: Weaver, Mozeliak, and the AFL

The last weekend of October has come and gone. Here is what happened.

MLB: Cincinnati Reds at St. Louis Cardinals Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

So how about that Game 5 of the World Series last night, right? Crazy happenings at Wrigley between the Cleveland Indians, who entered the game with a 3-1 lead, and the Chicago Cubs, trying to win their first home World Series game since (early in) the Truman administration.

I totally watched the game, and am choosing to speak in generalities not because I’m writing this post hours ahead of time but because this is a Cardinals blog, devoted only to covering the Cardinals. So I’ll mention that stuff.

Luke Weaver

Ben Markham evaluated Luke Weaver’s status as a trade chip for the Cardinals. It’s always hard to evaluate potential trades because if you’re going to go for a big name, you’re going to have to trade away worthwhile stuff. For instance, Ben mentions Kevin Kiermaier, Good Player that would require the Cardinals to deal more than unwanted aging ex-stars but not Amazing Player that would require they trade the deed to Busch Stadium.

John Mozeliak

The Cardinals have many moves to consider in the off-season, and the red baron considered some of the ones John Mozeliak will face in the coming weeks and months.

Arizona Fall League

In Arizona Fall League action on Friday, as recapped by Josey Curtis, the Glendale Desert Dogs played and both Carson Kelly and Paul DeJong struggled. On Saturday, Austin Gomber pitched well, and Josey covered this as well.

Oh, and also, I forgot to mention this the other day, but Jon Hamm wore a Cardinals hat on Friday. He was in a Wrigley Field crowd of people who believed the Chicago Cubs would win the World Series, which isn’t the first time I’ve seen Jon Hamm associated with people convinced that they acted as witness to the apocalypse. Anyway, have a great day folks.
