On Friday afternoon, the Glendale Desert Dogs faced off with the Peoria Javelinas at the Peoria Sports Complex in Arizona.

Javelinas 8, Desert Dogs 2

  • Paul DeJong (SS): 1-3, RBI
  • Harrison Bader (LF): 1-4, R
  • Ryan Sherriff (RP): 1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 Ks (pitched the seventh inning)

The Desert Dogs suffered another loss on Friday, as the Javelinas ran to an 8-2 victory to up their record to 7-1, the best in the Arizona Fall League. Meanwhile, Glendale is 3-7, a record that’s tied with that of the Scottsdale Scorpions for the worst in the AFL.

'Dogs starter Chris Anderson allowed six runs (five earned) over his three-inning outing, but that was too much for his team to overcome, and Anderson was charged with his second loss in as many decisions.

The Javelinas saw big days from designated hitter Nick Ciuffo and catcher Tyler Marlette, who belong to the Tampa Bay Rays and Seattle Mariners, respectively. Ciuffo and Marlette both went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs; Ciuffo collected his second double of the exhibition season, while Marlette went yard for the second time.

Cardinals prospects Paul DeJong, Harrison Bader, and Ryan Sherriff all participated in Friday’s game. DeJong went 1-for-3 and drove in a run, Bader collected a hit in four at-bats and scored a run, and Sherriff allowed a run and punched out two over his inning-long outing.
