On Tuesday evening, the Glendale Desert Dogs and Peoria Javelinas squared off in the seventh game of the Arizona Fall League for Glendale.

Javelinas 6, Desert Dogs 3

  • Austin Gomber (SP): 4 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
  • Ryan Sherriff (RP):
  • Harrison Bader (RF): 0-2, BB, R
  • Carson Kelly (C): 1-3, RBI

By way of a run in the seventh inning and two additional tallies in the eighth, the Javelinas busted their 3-3 tie with the Desert Dogs to construct a 6-3 advantage that they won with on Tuesday.

With Cardinals farmhand Ryan Sherriff on the mound, the Javelinas put runners at first and second with one out, and the runner from second -- the go-ahead run -- came around to score on a fielding error by Desert Dogs and White Sox third baseman Trey Michalczewski before Sherriff recorded the second out of the frame and was removed in favor of the Dodgers’ Corey Copping, who allowed two runs in the eighth.

Through the first five games of the AFL for the Javellinas, Tyler O’Neill of the Mariners’ organization has wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers. In the games, the right-handed-hitting outfielder is 7-for-23 with two doubles, three homers, five RBIs, and seven runs scored. During the 2016 season in Seattle’s farm system, O’Neill slashed .293/.374/.508 with 54 extra-base hits, including 24 long balls.

As for Cardinals in this game, Austin Gomber allowed three runs over his four-inning start. Sherriff, as mentioned, was on the mound when the Javelinas scored the go-ahead run. Right-fielder Harrison Bader went 0-for-2, and Carson Kelly notched a hit and batted in a run.
