News and notes: Draft preview, free agents, DH, Alex Reyes

everything you missed yesterday

Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

The Red Baron's draft previews keep on rolling. Yesterday's article was about college bats. TRB covers bat-only prospect Bobby Dalbec, who has incredible raw power but can't tap into it enough in games. There's also Pure Hitter Nick Banks, who plays Center Field but may have to move to a corner. Last is Will Craig, who has tremendous plate discipline but is a future first-baseman like Dalbec. Check out the article for all of The Red Baron's thoughts on these three potential Cardinals.

Ben Godar made the case that the Cardinals need to change up their free agent game, and I compleltely agree. The Cardinals were ahead of the game when it came to building a consistent contender through draft and development, but they seem to be behind when it comes to adoption of the Opt-out.

Fans of watching pitchers hit and can rejoice! Yesterday's hunt and peck included a quote from commissioner Manfred on the DH, saying he sees the situation staying the same for the "foreseeable future".

Baseball Prospectus named Alex Reyes the tenth best prospect in baseball. Reyes of course has "borderline unfair" stuff with below average ability to command it. If he can learn how to command it, then the Cardinals could very well have a new ace.

Finally, yours truly had a piece on our options for replacing Yadi. We're basically holding out hope for Kelly, and if not we may need to make a big trade or free agent signing.
