St. Louis Cardinals at Cincinnati Reds - Game 142 open thread - September 12, 2015

Lance Lynn vs. Anthony DeSclafani

David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

The St. Louis Cardinals wasted little time losing last-night-and-this-morning's game to the Cincinnati Reds. Rain caused a delay in the eighth inning last night, with the game knotted at two and the Cardinals in a promising position: a runner on first with nobody out. This morning, a bungled hit-and-run squandered that baserunner, a two-run dinger in the subsequent half-inning gave the Reds a two-run lead, and Ardolis Chapman closed the door on the Cardinals' seventh loss in nine games. It all took about 30 minutes.

So the Cardinals and Reds will be fairly rested, I guess, for the full nine-inning contest they will engaged in this afternoon. Except for Chapman and Broxton. I suppose those are the positive ripple effects for the Cards. The negative is that their Central lead is down to 3.5 games. The Pirates-Brewers game begins at 6:05 p.m. CT, so we'll know how angsty our scoreboard watching should be.
