St. Louis Cardinals Prospect Report: Garcia stays hot; Flaherty throws a gem; Plummer, Denton, Oxnevad, and Woodford dominate GCL

The Baby Birds went 5-4 on Wednesday night. Anthony Garcia continued his strong season in Springfield, while Jack Flaherty was dominant for Peoria. Also, the 2015 high school draftees dominated the GCL.

AAA - Memphis 3 - Omaha 4

  • Jacob Wilson had two hits, including a dinger, which is his 18th of the season.
  • Jeremy Hazelbaker continued his hot streak with a double and 2 walks.
  • Zack Petrick had a solid start, with 6 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 0 BB and 7 K

AA - Springfield 4 - Midland 5 (14 innings)

  • Anthony Garcia had another great night at the plate with 2 1B and a 2B.
  • Patrick Wisdom hit his 14th homer of the year

A+ - Palm Beach 4 - Charlotte 3

  • Luke Voit was the offensive MVP, with a HR, a 1B and a BB.
  • Blake McKnight pitched very well to lower his ERA to 1.96  His final line was 5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB and 4 K.

A - Peoria 7 - Dayton 0

  • Oscar Mercado and Paul De Jong each had a triple and an RBI.
  • Jack Flaherty was the star of the game.  He continued his dominant first full season with a line of 6.1 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 3 BB and 8 K.

A SS - State College 7 - Brooklyn 6

  • Johan Acevedo, Casey Grayson, and Cole Lankford each had three hits to lead the way for State College offensively.
  • Landon Beck pitched well enough to pick up the win, with a line of 5 IP, 4 ER, 2 BB and 7 K.

Rookie - Johnson City 7 - Bristol 10

  • Edmundo Sosa reached base 3 times, with a 1B and 2 BB.
  • Eliezer Alvarez had two hits, including a 3 run dinger.

Rookie - Johnson City 1 - Bristol 9

  • Chris Chinea had two hits, with a 2B and 1B.

GCL - Cardinals 4 - Nationals 2

  • The 2015 high school draftees dominated on Wednesday.
  • Nick Plummer and Bryce Denton both had two singles.
  • Ian Oxnevad and Jake Woodford combined for a line of 9 IP, 5 H,  1 ER, 2 BB and 7 K.
