St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter, who had been sporting perhaps the hottest bat in all of baseball, did not travel with the club to Pittsburgh due to "extreme fatigue," according to Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com. Thus, he's not in tonight's starting lineup and won't be in Saturday's or Sunday's either. As of this writing, it's unclear when Carpenter will be able to play ball again. The bright side? The Cardinals have not placed Carpenter on the disabled list. At least not yet.
