The St. Louis Cardinals face the Philadelpha Phillies this evening at Busch Stadium. The game is on Fox Sports Midwest and ESPN. Manager Mike Matheny has constructed a lineup that will give its eighth-most-talented hitter the most plate appearances because of that player's individual splits against Philadelphia starting pitcher Aaron Harang. If my memory serves me correctly, the last time Matheny made a lineup decision based on a player's head-to-head performance against the opposing starter, Pete Kozma started at second base in Game 1 of the 2014 NLDS.
The Cardinals lineup:
- Peter Bourjos, CF
- Matt Carpenter, 3B
- Matt Holliday, LF
- Matt Adams, 1B
- Jhonny Peralta, SS
- Jason Heyward, RF
- Yadier Molina, C
- Kolten Wong, 2B
- Carlos Martinez, P
The Phillies lineup:
- Ben Revere, CF
- Odubel Herrera, CF
- Chase Utley, 2B
- Jeff Francoeur, RF
- Ryan Howard, 1B
- Cody Asche, 3B
- Carlos Ruiz, C
- Freddy Galvis, SS
- Harang, P
