Our daily thread has 1,600 comments, so I thought it might be a good time to start the comments fresh and pass along a few more rumors.
While the Giants have apparently dropped out, the Angels might or might not still be involved, and the Cubs seem to have found more cash than most thought possible heading into the offseason, a new bidder has emerged. The Washington Nationals are the mystery team, per Jon Heyman:
Nats are in on jason heyward. Mystery team has been solved. Washington joins cubs, cards in JH derby.

Ken Rosenthal provided some of the reasoning behind the Nationals' interest in Heyward:
Werth contract expires after ’17. No guarantee of keeping Harper beyond ’18. Signing Heyward would assure #Nationals of long-term OF piece.

Heyward would certainly provide the Nationals with a formidable team less more likely to meet expectations in 2016 than this past year when they missed the playoffs. Here are Viva El Birdos, we have made our position quite clear:
Just sign Jason Heyward already.

We do not yet know if Heyward will make a decision today or if this will carry on into Friday or the weekend. The rumors of a Heyward decision today were set off when Giants reporter Andrew Baggerly reported the Giants were out of the running:
Not sure if Heyward deal is done, but Giants expected him to choose a club today. And it won't be them. Cubs or Cardinals, likely.
