Notes:
  • Elizabethton got to 2014 13th round pick Matt Pearce early, scoring 2 in the 1st. Pearce settled down and was able to retire the bottom of the lineup in order in the 2nd, but when the top of the lineup came to bat in the 3rd they pounded out 2 more runs.
  • The Johnson City hitters plated 3 runs of their own in between Pearce's rough innings. Left fielder Anthony Ray's 2 run triple was the key hit in the Cardinals' 3 run 2nd inning rally.
  • Julio Mateo threw 5 innings of shutout baseball in relief of Pearce. Chris Rivera's sacrifice fly tied the game in the 6th, and Johnson City finally took the lead when Oscar Mercado scored on a wild pitch in the 7th.
  • Ismael Brito has had issues with walks this season, but he was able to avoid any free passes yesterday and struck out the side to get the save and clinch the series.
  • Johnson City will begin a best of 3 series with the Danville Braves tomorrow to decide the Appalachian League championship.
