Remember SBN's daily fantasy game, Pick 6? I do! It was fun. It was... cute. You know what's fun but not at all cute? FanDuel. FanDuel is fun and terrifyingly REAL, man. Because real money is involved.
Let me tell you about FanDuel (note: FanDuel is paying me to tell you about FanDuel by putting money in my FanDuel account. FanDuel. I'm going to use that money to try the thing out and tell you about it. I'm not going to tell you anything about FanDuel that I don't actually think. FanDuel.)
FanDuel works a lot like pick 6. You have a daily salary cap and use it to fill out a roster. Pitcher, Catcher, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, + 3 OF's. Your team will accrue points that evening based on how well they did. If your team does well, you stand to make some money. If they did terribly, you will lose it.
There are a variety of games to play with your lineup. A $2 buy-in with 10,000 other people with the top 10% getting some money back, and the top handful getting a lot of money (overall winner gets $2K) looks like the most popular game. I'm trying it tonight. Let's go, Jeff Samardzija in SafeCo!
You can buy into more expensive pools with fewer players, and mini-leagues with revives, and such. You can even bet money straight-up in one-on-one matches. I, for one, would throw a few bucks into the pool to get Fourstick and Pegasus in the ring together. Who's with me? FanDuel!
Oh, and that reminds me, if there's enough VEB interest, we can get a site-wide league to play in if we'd like.
At the moment, I'm kind of interested in playing a long game in the $2 pools based exclusively on wOBA for and against adjusted for platoon splits. But don't tell!
Here's a fancy theoretically embedded video about them:
Anyhow, I'll be playing with the money they gave me over the next series and then for a bit after the break, and I'll occasionally post about how it's going and what I think of the site. They'll all have "FANDUEL" in the title, so you'll know what you're in for. It's all part of an exclusive SB Nation and FanDuel partnership. I'm not entirely sure what that means, but there you have it.
I'll also post links to the SBN push at the bottom of preview posts. They'll be small and unobtrusive, like this:
Editor's Note: SB Nation's partner FanDuel is hosting daily $18,000 Fantasy Baseball leagues. It's $2 to join and first prize is $2,000. Here's the link.
That's live, I think. Go sign up! You know, if you want! Or not!
I'm the point man at VEB on this, so if you have questions or concerns, let me know. And don't worry, this isn't going to be something constantly in your face here.
