St. Louis Cardinals Daily Farm Report: Lots of youth, and lots of rain

Memphis and Springfield were rained out, and Johnson City suspended after three innings. But the system still saw good nights from toolsy prospects like Charlie Tilson, C.J. McElroy, Vaughn Bryan, Malik Collymore, Oscar Mercado, and Chris Rivera.

Memphis' game was postponed due to rain.

Springfield's game was postponed due to rain.

Palm Beach lost to Fort Myers 2 - 3

  • Charlie Tilson (CF), 2 for 5
  • Anthony Garcia (LF), 1 for 4, 3B, K, R
  • Nick Petree, 5.0 IP, 6 Ks, BB, 2 Hits, 0 ER
  • Dixon Llorens, 1  Out: K, 2 BBs, 2 HBP, 2 Runs, 1 ER
Notes:

Tilson has looked very good lately, slugging well over .400 since April with solid OBPs to boot, driven mostly by very good batting averages.

Llorens blew the game with an awful 9th inning appearance. The sequence was as follows: HBP, BB, BB, K, HBP, ROE.

Peoria beat Quad Cities 5 - 4

  • Vaughn Bryan (CF), 1 for 3, K, SB, 2 Runs
  • C.J. McElroy (LF), 3 for 4, 2 2Bs, SB, 2 Runs, 2 RBI
  • Carson Kelly (DH), 0 for 4
  • Steve Bean (C), 0 for 4, Throwing error
  • Black McKnight, 6.0 IP, 3 Ks, 2 BBs, 4 Hits, 2 Runs, 1 ER
  • Chris Perry, 2.0 IP, H, 3 Ks, ER
Notes:

While neither one is forcing a promotion, both Bryan and McElroy are hitting pretty well. Bryan has hit better so far, with a better average, OBP, and more power, though neither one has managed a single HR yet.

Perry continues to impress at Low-A. With 75 Ks in 45 IP, I have a hard time seeing him finishing  the year at Peoria. Look for him at least in Palm Beach soon.

State College lost to Williamsport 4 - 8

  • Austin Gomber, 2.0 IP, K, 2 BBs, 2 HRs, 6 Hits, 5 Runs, 1 ER
Notes:

Gomber was the 4th round pick by the Cards this year out of Florida Atlantic University; a 6'5" lefthander.

GCL Cardinals lost to the GCL Mets 2 - 7

  • Malik Collymore (2B), 2 for 4, 3B, HR, BB, K, R, 2 RBI

DSL Cardinals lost to the DSL Giants 3 - 4

Johnson City leads Kingsport 8 - 1

Notes:

The game was suspended after the Cardinals' 6-run third. So far Oscar Mercado has two hits, a double, and two stolen bases. Chris Rivera is playing second base and also has a hit so far.
