Hunt and Peck: Links of the Weekend

A few years ago, Cardinals fans had to face a tragedy. Adam Wainwright would need Tommy John surgery. The reaction to this news inspired the brilliant Danup to pen this piece, Adam Wainwright and the 17 Stages of Grief.

You... you are the best. Just the best.

If you were like me, you were shaken when you heard the news that Michael Wacha would be headed to the DL. So without further ado, here is Michael Wacha and the 5 Stages of Possibly Overreacting, inspired by Dan's 17 Stages of Grief (which you should read if you haven't yet).

1. Denial. "Ha, very funny everybody. Michael isn't going to the DL. Obviously that is a misprint. No, he cannot. He is only 22 years old. He has only pitched 155 regular season major league innings. He can't really be hurt."

2-a. Junior Medical Professional. "My college roommate was a Physical Therapy major, so I think I know a little bit about shoulder injuries."

2-b. Find Actual Medical Professional. "So what really even is a stress reaction?"

3. Assigning Blame.  "MATHENY. Why did you let him start against the Mets? Why didn't the medical staff figure this out sooner? Look what your ego and incompetence has done!"

3.5 Re-assign Blame. "Look at all those jerks on my Facebook Wall in their Wacha sherseys taking selfies at the game. WHERE DID HE GO TO COLLEGE? WHAT PLACE WAS HE DRAFTED? HOW MUCH fWAR HAS HE ACCUMULATED? YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW HIM. THIS IS YOUR FAULT."

3.5-b. Re-re-assign Blame. "This is my fault, really. Everything I love breaks. I am cursed. Damaged. No, don't look at me."

4. iTunes Playlist Cries for Help.

The Beatles - Yesterday
The Beatles - Help
Johnny Cash - Hurt
Beastie Boys - Brass Monkey
Beastie Boys - Brass Monkey
Beastie Boys - Brass Monkey
Rihanna - Stay

5. Adam Wainwright Mancrush or Lady-Mancrush Resignedness. This is always the last step. Always.
