Daily Farm Report: Memphis outfield destroys many baseballs, Sam Gaviglio's strong outing, and Starlin Rodriguez goes deep twice to pace Palm Beach.

Affiliates go 3-1 on the day, with the only loss being Peoria who got shut out. Again. Fourteen runs on Tuesday, zero runs on Wednesday, such is life as a Chief this season.

David Banks

Memphis 7 Colorado Springs 4

Notables:
  • Greg Garcia (2B): 1-6, R, RBI
  • Randal Grichuk (CF): 2-4, 2 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, BB
  • Oscar Taveras (LF): 3-5, R, RBI
  • Stephen Piscotty (RF): 3-5, R
  • Xavier Scruggs (1B): 0-3, R, BB, K
  • Pete Kozma (SS): 2-5, R, RBI, K
  • Tommy Pham (PH): 1-1
  • Kurt Heyer (SP): 3.2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 3 K
  • Sam Freeman (RP): 1 IP, 2 K
  • Eric Fornataro (RP): 1 IP, 2 H, ER, HR
  • David Aardsma (RP): 1 IP, K
Notes:
  • Randal Grichuk hit his sixth home run and eleventh double of the AAA season. He's currently sporting a .273 ISO in 144 PA's with Memphis. The power is real, folks. Very, very real. Why the Angels just gave up on this guy I don't know, even with all his issues with breaking pitches.
  • The Memphis OF: 8-14, 2B, HR, 4 R, 3 RBI, 1 BB, No Strikeouts
  • This was Kurt Heyer's first start in Memphis and his usually good command was a bit off, throwing just 40 strikes in 82 pitches and not getting out of the 4th inning.
  • Roster moves: Shane Robinson was called back up with Joey Butler coming back down after going hitless in 5 PA's with the big club.

Springfield 5 Midland 3

Notables:
  • Mike O'Neill (LF): 1-4, R
  • Jacob Wilson (2B): 1-4, R, 2B, RBI, 2 K
  • Cody Stanley (DH): 2-3, HR, RBI, BB, K
  • Jonathan Rodriguez (1B): 0-4
  • Patrick Wisdom (3B): 1-4, R, HR, RBI, K
  • David Popkins (RF): 1-4, R, HR, 2 RBI
  • Rafael Ortega (CF): 1-3, K
  • Matt Williams (SS): 0-3, K
  • Sam Gaviglio (SP): 5.2 IP, 4 H, BB, 7 K
  • Lee Stoppelman (RP): 0.1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, HR
Notes:
  • Stanley keeps on hitting, pushing his batting average up to .343 on the season after two more hits, including his 4th home run on the year.
  • O'Neill and Jacob Wilson have formed a nice 1-2 punch at the top of the Springfield lineup, setting the table for Stanley, Ramsey, and Rodriguez in the middle of the order.
  • Sam Gaviglio finally put up 5 solid innings in a start, striking out 7 Rock Hounds and walking just one. This was a good sign for as much as he's been struggling so far this season.

Palm Beach 4 Brevard County 3

Notables:
  • Breyvic Valera (2B): 1-4
  • Starlin Rodriguez (LF): 2-3, 2 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI
  • David Washington (DH): 1-3, 2 RBI, K
  • Charlie Tilson (CF): 0-4, 2 K
  • Joe Cuda (SP): 7 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 3 K, HR
Notes:
  • Starlin Rodriguez is the rare A++ hitter: His career numbers in the FSL have been very good, and this season's 5 homers are just more of that same story.  But he struggled with the transition to AA last year.
  • Charlie Tilson continues to struggle with making good contact: Career high 19.3% K-rate and while he's hitting .294, it's a completely punchless form of the number, with a miniscule .031 ISO.

Clinton 5 Peoria 0

Notables:
  • C.J. McElroy (CF): 2-3, SB (9)
  • Juan Herrera (SS): 0-4
  • Vaughn Bryan (RF): 1-4
  • Carson Kelly (C): 0-4, K
  • Kenny Peoples-Walls (LF): 1-4
  • Steve Bean (DH):1-3, BB
  • Mason Katz (2B): 0-3
  • Justin Ringo (1B): 1-4
Notes:
  • Has anyone ever seen C.J. McElroy and Charlie Tilson in the same room?  Are we sure they aren't the same person?  Because they are both hitting for a nice empty batting average with tiny ISO's. At least he stole a base in this game and has been doing that on a regular basis to make up for the fact that he couldn't find second base out of the batter's box if he tripped over it.
  • Both Vaughn Bryan and Justin Ringo arrived from extended ST this week and round out a pretty damn good Peoria lineup.  If you're lucky you might just catch a series of these guys where you'd get to see Bryan, Castillo, Kelly, Ringo, and McElroy multiple times and both Alex Reyes and Rob Kaminsky on the hill.
Today's Starters:

Memphis: A. Castro

Springfield: Cornelius

Palm Beach: Helisek

Peoria: Kaminsky
