Daily Farm Report: Piscotty homers, Stoppelman gets a stop, and someone finally solves Breyvic Valera (if only for a night)

Cardinal affiliates go 1-3 on the day with both hitting and pitching troubles ruling the day, even the game they won they scored only two runs. Notes will be brief today as I'm traveling and haven't had a chance to watch any of the games from Thursday

Nashville 5 Memphis 4

  • Greg Garcia (2B): 3-4, 3B, BB, K, CS, PO
  • Randal Grichuk (CF): 2-5, 2B, 3 RBI, K
  • Oscar Taveras (LF-RF): 1-5
  • Stephen Piscotty (RF): 1-3, R, HR, RBI, K
  • Xavier Scruggs (1B): 0-3, BB, K
  • Pete Kozma (SS): 0-4, 2 K
  • Tommy Pham (PH-LF): 2-2, R, BB
  • Lee Stoppelman (RP): 2 IP, 3 K
  • Sam Freeman (RP): 2 IP, 3 H, 3 K

  • All the Nashville damage was done off Scott McGregor who walked 5 and had two wild pitches on the night.
  • Piscotty hit his first homer of 2014 a deep shot to left center.
  • Garcia was caught stealing once and also picked off, negating is .800 OBP in this game by making silly outs on the bases.

Springfield 2 Arkansas 1

  • Seth Blair (SP): 6 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 3 K
  • Mike O'Neill (LF): 1-4
  • James Ramsey (CF): 0-2, BB, SB
  • Aledmys Diaz (SS): 1-4, K
  • Jonathan Rodriguez (1B): 0-3, BB
  • Rafael Ortega (RF): 2-4, 2 R
  • Patrick Wisdom (3B): 1-4, 2B, K

  • Blair continues to struggle with his command of the strike zone, but that said, he's awfully good at inducing weak contact
  • Cardinals turned 4 double plays in this contest, which helped to erase a good chunk of Blair's baserunners as well.

Charlotte 5 Palm Beach 3

  • Charlie Tilson (CF): 3-5, R, K
  • Breyvic Valera (2B): 0-5
  • Jacob Wilson (3B): 0-3
  • Starlin Rodriguez (RF): 1-3, R, 2B, BB
  • Anthony Garcia (LF): 2-4, 2B, BB
  • Alex Mejia (SS): 1-4,, SB
  • Rough game for the middle of the Springfield order with Valera and Wilson making no contact after Tilson gets on base 3 times.
  • Valera did hit behind a runner to move him to third, so at least some of his day seems like a success.

Ft. Wayne 6 Peoria 5

  • C.J. McElroy (CF): 2-5, 2 R, 3B, K
  • Carson Kelly (C): 1-3, 2B, RBI
  • Ronald Castillo (RF): 1-4, R, RBI, K
  • Mason Katz (2B): 0-4, 2 K
  • Kenneth Peoples-Walls: 1-4, 2B, RBI, K

  • Kelly cut down Mallex Smith, the leadoff hitter for the Tin Caps, trying to steal second base.
  • Zach Loraine allowed the winning (inherited) runner to score in the 9th,
