After getting a St. Patrick's Day drubbing from the Boston Red Sox Monday, the St. Louis Cardinals announced a further thinning of the herd. The following players have been reassigned to minor-league camp:
- Tim Cooney, LHP
- Lee Stoppelman, LHP
- Travis Tartamella, C
None of these players being relegated to minor-league camp is surprising. Cooney will continue to prepare for the Triple-A starting rotation. Stoppelman was never going to beat one of the lefties already on the 40-man roster for an opening-day bullpen role. Tartamella was in big-league camp primarily to help get pitchers ready by catching sessions. None of the three players are on the Cardinals 40-man roster, so no options were used.
