Peter Bourjos and Jon Jay are sharing the field this afternoon, but what might be the most important spring training battle of all continues as Shelby Miller's "other" pitches take up arms against the idea that they don't actually exist. Many regulars are in the lineup today, and with news of the Diaz signing, management is trying to find a new position for Daniel Descalso: DH.
Reigning American League Cy Young winner Max "Wild West County" Scherzer will be a treat to watch for the first few innings today. Miggy's in the lineup as well.
The Tigers had an eventful offseason. Jim Leyland left and Brad Ausmus arrived. Prince Fielder was traded for Ian Kinsler in a fantasy-level blockbuster. Doug Fister was sent away for puzzlingly little (elbow health pending). Jhonny Peralta walked and Jose Iglesias will get a full season. Miggy moved to first, while youngster Nick Castellanos will man third. After all the dust is settled, this team looks poised to continue its run of excellence, and enters the season a favorite to win the AL Central for the fourth straight season.
