2014 VEB Community Projections: Matt Holliday

New, comments
USA TODAY Sports

In Colorado, from ages 24-28, Matt Holliday hit .319/.386/.552 for an OPS+ of 131.

In St. Louis, from ages 29-33, Matt Holliday hit .306/.389/.520 for an OPS+ of 148.

A lot of words have been spent on how underrated Matt Holliday's career has been, but I never noticed before I started this post how good he's actually been with St. Louis. Even with declining power (ISOs of .220-.229-.202-.190 over the past four season) and lower BABIPs (.331-.330-.337-.322 vs .341-.359.377.351 in the four years prior), he has maintained a very strong offensive profile on the back of a high walk rate and prodigious doubles power.

There was an interesting discussion a couple of days ago where we were discussing Cardinal players with 80 tools, and one person mentioned Matt Holliday's power. He's never hit a prodigious number of HRs, but anecdotally, I've seen only a few players make consistently harder contact than Matt Holliday. Just ask Trevor Cahill!

If you want to read more about Holliday's low ball skill, read this article from Joe a few weeks ago. He does a great job summarizing.
