After an ugly mound incident with Shelby Miller and a baseball, and then several ugly mound incidents with Jake Westbrook and Keith Butler, Carlos Martinez has been promoted to take over Jake Westbrook's spot. Temporarily. Maybe.

For some reason, there's no profile for Carlos Martinez in SBN's databases, even though he's actually pitched in several MLB games this year. I can get you one for John Gast, but not Carlos Martinez.

Anyway, Carlos is short (for a pitcher), young, very talented, strikes a lot of dudes out, and gets a surprising number of groundballs. As an MLB reliever, he has struck out 22% of the batters he has faced in 11 innings pitched, while only walking 8% of them. He has a 5.56 ERA, but only a 2.68 FIP and 3.42 xFIP. As a minor leaguer, he has struck out 21% of the batters faced and walked 10% of them, in 10 starts at Memphis over 51 innings. He has a 1.76 ERA at Memphis and a 3.16 FIP.
