Daily Farm Report - 6/29/13

A daily recap of the minor league players in the Cardinals' farm system.

Memphis 2, Albuquerque 3

  • Chad Huffman was 3-for-4.
  • Thomas Pham was 2-for-4.
  • Rob Johnson was 1-for-2 with a triple and a walk. Johnson's triple was the only extra base hit among Memphis' 9 hits during the game.
  • Carlos Martinez battled some shaky command through 6 innings allowing 3 walks and 4 hits. He was tagged for 3 runs (2 earned) but struck out 5.
  • Nick Greenwood pitched 2 scoreless innings allowing 1 hit.
  • Marc Rzepczynski pitched a scoreless 9th.

Springfield 3, San Antonio 5

Palm Beach 5, Bradenton 0

  • Colin Walsh was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk.
  • Anthony Garcia was 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles. Garcia is slowly dragging his OPS out of the doldrums with a .774 showing on the season now.
  • Casey Rasmus was 3-for-5 with a double.
  • Ronnie Gil was 1-for-4 with his first home run on the season.
  • Kurt Heyer pitched 7 shutout innings allowing just 2 hits and walking 3. Heyer struck out an impressive 7 while getting more groundouts than airouts.
  • Danny Miranda struck out 2 in 2 perfect innings of relief.

Peoria 1, Cedar Rapids 2 (10 innings)

  • Patrick Wisdom was 3-for-4 and the only Chief to have a multi-hit game.
  • Peoria struck out an ugly 12 times in the game with 3 strikeouts apiece for Jordan Walton and Charlie Tilson.
  • Hector Hernandez struck out 6 in 8 innings. He walked 3 and allowed 1 run on 5 hits. Hernandez hasn't really improved his strikeout or walk rate during his second full season in low-A but he has seen a noticable drop off in his opponent's batting average.
  • Zach Russell allowed an inherited runner from Thomas Lee to score. More galling was that it came on a wild pitch.

State College 1, Batavia 3 (7 innings)

State College 4, Batavia 5 (7 innings)

  • State College lead 4-1 going into the 7th before a bullpen meltdown.
  • Bruce Caldwell, 3B, walked twice but was 0-for-2.
  • Steve Ramos, LF, was 2-for-3.
  • State College managed just 4 hits but walked an impressive 6 times.
  • Juan Bautista allowed 4 hits and 1 run over 5 innings. He walked 2 and struck out 1.
  • Jhonny Polanco and Jeff Rauh combined to allow 4 runs in the 7th.

Johnson City 2, Princeton 6

  • Brett Wiley, 2B, was 0-for-2 with a pair of walks.
  • Kyle Grieshaber, DH, was 1-for-3 with a walk.
  • Dailyn Martinez allowed 8 hits in 3.1 innings for 5 runs (4 earned).
  • Steve Sabatino pitched 2.2 scoreless innings allowing 1 hit and 3 strikeouts.
  • Zach Loraine struck out 3 over 2 innings. He allowed an unearned run and 1 hit.
