Wainwright Strikes Out Eight Through Five Innings, Game Tied 1-1

New, 1519 comments

The Cardinals have seen a lot of unhelpful bounces, even though Adam Wainwright is pitching an excellent game. Wainwright has tossed 8 strikeouts and walked none. He's allowed 5 hits in 5 innings, including two unfortunately consecutive doubles in the first inning, which accounts for the only Red Sox run so far.

The Cardinals offense has been pretty quiet, with the noisy exception of a booming solo home run from Matt Holliday. Singles to David Freese and Carlos Beltran are the only other productions after five innings. They've had some hard-hit balls, but nothing is translating into runs yet.

Pedroia, Ortiz, and Gomes are up next in what will probably be a very important inning.
