panic in the halls of bristol
panic in the halls of cooperstown
i wonder to myself
will they make the Hall someday?
oh, the PEDs that bonds creamed 'round
i wonder to myself
hopes may rise for biggio, dear
but honeypie, it's not his year
so you sorely lack
for thoughtfulness from the hired hacks
for there's panic in the halls at SI,
Fox Sports, Newsday, LA Times
i wonder to myself
burn down cooperstown
hang the 'BWAA
because the drivel that they constantly stream
it says nothing to me about baseball
hang the 'BWAA
because the drivel that they constantly stream
oh, the PEDs that bonds creamed 'round
the HGH roger choked down.

i've followed the hall of fame to-do with a little venom and a lot of amusement. we should hope for something better than the preposterous mess we just saw from the BBWAA, where numerous deserving players were left out of the Hall, many on no evidence of any PED-taking of their own. in the meantime, jack morris was the second highest vote-getter. and sandy alomar, jr. got six votes.
but really, what should we expect? the hall is in cooperstown for reasons that have nothing to do with baseball at all, just some abner doubleday nonsense which has been widely disproven.
and we also know that there is very little rhyme or reason to Hall membership in the first place. bob lemon is in! buck o'neil isn't! if you played for more than ten years between World War I and Korea, and you were pretty okay, and white, we probably have a spot in cooperstown for you. if you're alan trammel or tim raines, we have some lovely parting gifts.
we should hope for better, but we shouldn't be surprised by this. the Hall itself was constructed on a lie, and it's only gotten moderately better since then.
i look forward to the jack morris induction in 2014.
