What a difference two weeks makes.
After being swept at home the Braves in a three-game series from May 11-13, the Cardinals dominated the Braves in Atlanta on Monday. St. Louis again utilized their winning formula of plating many runs while the pitching staff stifles the opponent. Starter Lance Lynn allowed only two runs over seven innings and his offense scored eight runs as the Cardinals trounced the Braves 8-2.
After Matt Holliday scored on a past ball with the bases loaded and Yadier Molina singled in a run, Daniel Descalso, owner of a .349 slugging percentage entering play this holiday, rapped a two-run homer early in the third inning to the put the Cardinals in the lead 4-0. A solo fifth-inning homer by Rafael Furcal made it 5-0 and Matt Adams drove in the final three runs for the Cardinals on the afternoon. The rookie Adams continued his fine play, going 3 for 5 with two singles, a double, and three ribbies.
The Cardinals play the Braves at 6:10 P.M. CDT on Tuesday. Jake Westbrook will start against Randall Delgado.
