Earlier this morning, the White Sox and Blue Jays completed a trade that sends right-handed starter Edwin Jackson and utility man Mark Teahen to the Tortonto Blue Jays for starter Zach Stewart and reliever Jason Frasor. The rumor mill only churned faster as speculation mounted that there would be an additional move by the Blue Jays, who would flip Jackson to a contender. Speculation centered on the St. Louis Cardinals and Colby Rasmus.
Now MLB Trade Rumors has channeled the unicorn, posting that the Cardinals will trade Colby Rasmus, a twenty-four year old center fielder under club control until 2014, for Edwin Jackson, right-handed Octavio Dotel, and left-handed reliever Marc Rzepczinski.
*****UPDATE*****
Buster Olney has apparently corrected what may be an erroneous report by St. Louis Post-Dispatch report Joe Strauss. It seems that Strauss may not have had the whole story on the Rasmus trade. In what could be another example of national media types having the scoop on St. Louis Cardinal roster machinations, Olney tweets that the trade breaks down like this.
CARDINALS RECEIVE:
Edwin Jackson
Marc Rzepczinski (apprently also known as "Scrabble")
Octavio Dotel
Corey Patterson
BLUE JAYS RECEIVE:
Colby Rasmus
Trever Miller
Brian Tallet
P.J. Walters
