Brett Myers | Adam Wainwright |
1-2, 4.83 | 3-0, 2.76 |
So after five starts, Our Man Wainwright has had exactly one start in which his nine-inning walk rate was below five. It was a beauty, but now that it's sandwiched between three spotty starts on one end and last week's on the other the narrative's gotten cloudy again.
Avoiding the home run has been Wainwright's best asset as a major leaguer to this point, and so far he's just allowed the one in almost thirty innings, which is about half as many as you'd expect from his career numbers. I guess not being in the strike zone is one way to avoid the longball, unless you're pitching to Vlad.
