6-6, 4.58

3-3, 2.77

as far as i know, el duque is the only over-40 pitcher scheduled to start today. he currently has a 2.77 era, which --- if sustained over the rest of this season --- would be the lowest of his career; his previous best was 3.13 in 1998, his "rookie" year. without doing any research, i would have to guess that no starting pitcher in history ever set a new career-best in era at the age of 41. . . . . wait, i take it back: this guy set a new era low at the age of 42.

but aside from him. . . .

pujols will sit tonight. outta curiosity i checked his career line vs the duke: 1 for 3 with a double, no strikeouts. apparently spiezio can't play tonight. i thought he'd be at 1b ---- he has homered off el duque twice in 13 career at-bats, and he has 6 walks in 19 plate appearances against him --- obp of .526. here are the lineups:

STL NY
schumaker cf reyes ss
miles ss lo duca c
encarnacion rf beltran cf
duncan 1b wright 3b
rolen 3b delgado 1b
ludwick lf green rf
molina c gomez lf
kennedy 2b gotay 2b
wainwright p hernandez p

your World Champion Cardinals. . . . lucky they score 2 runs with that lineup. throw a shutout, adam.

the cardinals are 12-12 this month, with 4 games left. if they win tonight and then take the series vs the reds, they'll have their first winning month since last july.
