Shortstop and leadoff hitter David Eckstein probably will miss at least two weeks of Grapefruit League competition after experiencing discomfort in his left side, the same area that dogged him during last season's final weeks. . . .
Cardinals medical supervisor Dr. George Paletta is set to examine Eckstein this morning after arriving in West Palm Beach on Friday night. Meanwhile, the club issued an abbreviated statement Friday stating that "Eckstein is experiencing mild rib cage soreness not related to a specific injury."
