because of pinetargate, weaver's gutty effort in game 2 ended up as an afterthought. he did give up 3 runs in 5 innings, but it could have been a lot worse; he pitched out of some jams, including one not of his own making. two hitters -- casey and guillen, both lefties -- inflicted most of the damage against him. guillen doubled home the tigers' 2d run with two outs in the 1st; he then tripled with one out in the 5th and scored on casey's two-out single. in all weaver faced 11 left-handed batters and only got 4 of them out -- including granderson 3 times. if he can reverse that ratio (ie, get 7 outs per 11 lhb faced) the cardinals will probably be popping corks tonight.
