More on TLR's arrest
This from Steve Rosenbloom's blog in the Chicago Tribune:
"There was more to the Tony La Russa drunk-driving arrest in spring training than just a drunk-driving arrest. Such as two lawmen preparing "a dazed-and-confused La Russa for jail by teaching him gang signs" and a group of laughing cops discussing how to "scare" the "person snoring inside by pushing their faces against the windows and banging loudly." All caught on camera--a camera in the dash of a police car."

Interesting Tigers leadoff hitter
Ivan Rodriguez!
"Rodriguez batted first against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Monday, something he has done seven times in 10 spring games. He has hit first in all four of his starts against left-handers, including Monday (Casey Fossum). He also has batted leadoff against three right-handers, including two accomplished men by the name of Roy (Halladay and Oswalt)."

Modified 1998 baseballs
Any thoughts on the new controversy about the 1998 baseballs, claiming there are issues with some synthetic rubber ring?

Sorry about the wacky link; couldn't link to the Chicago Trib 'cause you'd need a login.
MLB spokespeople seems to be pretty seriously downplaying/ignoring it.

National League Offensive/Defensive VORP
I thought this was pretty interesting as a way to compare NL teams.

Sure, it's a way to slam the Cubs, but the CArds don't look so bad. LA's general manager is looking like a genius (thought I don't know how it'd look if this were also compared to payroll).

What makes a successful playoff team?
I thought this might be interesting to discuss, given our discussions on power pitchers and whether or not we needed Burnett during the offseason.
