Yadi Out

I believe it was Goold (I may be mistaken, I try not to listen too closely very often) on 1380 a few minutes ago, and it sounds as if Yadi may be out up to six weeks. Me happy, this news does not make. The lone bright spot in the lineup during this season has been Jaddee.

In conclusion, the year continues to suck.

Eli and Falcon
have been let go. Anderson could use more seasoning. I'm afraid it's going to be Esposito or one of those other Memphites we've never heard of.

ah, heck
call up the 20 year old. throw his butt in the fire and see how he handles it. he's continued to be bad at blocking the plate, but he's thrown out 45% of runners. Memphis has allowed more SB then any other team and it's not like Bennett has a gun. I'm sure it'll never happen, but i'd like to see Bryan A

How about this battery for tonight's game
Wellemeyer and Christianson?  This team is so damned depressing right now!

by chuckb on May 30, 2007 10:28 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yikes
He has more K's than hits and strikes out 1/3 of the time - against AAA pitching.  Looks like he'll fit into our lineup just fine.

Christianson
When I lived in Eugene, OR, I swear a catcher named Ryan Christianson played for the Eugene Emeralds (pre-A), although I don't see that reflected in his stats on the link.

I was impressed with him at the time, although now that's 7 years ago.  Great arm, seemed very mature and calm behind the plate, and hit with power.

by glennrwordman on May 30, 2007 11:07 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

christianson played in that league
in 1999 --- didn't play for eugene, but was in 30 games for the Everett AquaSox that year. he likely played in eugene as a visiting player; i bet that's how you remember him.

Do it. Do it Christianson looks to be on the 7-Day.

Fritz -- you got a catcher's mitt stashed around
Places the Cardinals have zero depth at:
Catcher

Even in the outfield and infield we have replacement level players. . .Bennett is pretty terrible to be a starting catcher.

My 1992 Rawlings Lance Parrish
mitt and I are more than ready.

Now that I think about it, this injury may end up being much worse than it seems. We have seen what a wrist injury can do to great hitters -- D Lee, Nomar , et al -- but what will it do to a decent (at best) hitter who is just starting to put it together and find his stroke?

Everybody off the bandwagon!

by OCCardsFan on May 30, 2007 10:55 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

it could seriously hurt Yadi's development
if it causes him to alter his mechanics.  I'm less worried about the wrist injury for Yadi that I would be for Nomar, DLee because those wrist injuries tend to sap bat speed and a player's power dramatically.  I think yadi will still be able to make contact when he comes back (he wasn't really slugging anyway) but if he tries to adjust his swing to compensate for his wrist then that would seem to put him back at square one.

walt says they'll sign someone
i wouldn't mind if it was him honestly. he had a few solid years (by backup catcher standards). i wonder where mike difelece (sp) is.

Marrero
What ever happened to Eli?  I see he has only 4 AB's at Memphis.  Is he injured...Have we cut him?  I was hoping he would beat out Bennett for the back-up role out of ST.

by cardzfanbub on May 30, 2007 10:42 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

he was injured just returned to action last week
in his first game back, the opposing team stole 5 bases off him . . . .

Injury...
What kind of injury?  I wouldn't be at all surprised to see TLR want Marrero if he can play.

We'll know soon enough.

per Goold..
Marrero was released last week.

Perfect storm
What am I leaving out?  I guess it could get worse, but....

Edmonds' two surgeries
Kinney's elbow
Encarnacion's delayed arrival
LaRussa's DUI
Carpenter's elbow
Hancock's death
Yadi's wrist
Is Dunan's knee next?
Or is Rolen hurt again?

and has anyone else noticed that Spezio has all kinds of health stuff going on - he's great in a pinch off the bench but he's not always available when we need him.

Yowza.  This will take some seriously strong character and leadership to keep the team from falling into complete disarray.

And Esposito it is
he has a robust .174/.221/.243 line w/ 25 K's in 115 ABs.

He has a career minor league OPS of .582.  At least now Bennett has some competition for worst hitter on the team.  (Wainwright, Looper and Wells have long since passed him.)

This is
becoming ridiculous. Bad luck is no excuse, but this season has really been off the scale with injuries and slumps. Hopefully they are getting all the '08 bad luck out of the way and next year will find a healthier/ready to play team. Yadi's injury is finally the death blow to this suffering '07. I just want Albert to start hitting some homeruns so there is at least something to watch in these boring, pathetic games.

Or an offset to the wonderful 2006 postseason?
Our 83-win miracle team won courtesy of Weaver, Yadi, Suppan, Taguchi......the reversion to the mean is killing us - compounded by some serious misfortune.

Baseball Depression
I am relating well with the Yankees fans at work now, and not saying much to Cubs fans. I am depressed now, officially, that Yadi's hurt. That World Series honeymoon wore off the day Hancock died. TLR will be gone after this season, and we can build a new tradition. Oquendo for manager in '08!
