Game 3 postgame thread

That was depressing.  Just remember that the 1985 Cardinals started out 0-4, just... remember...  and we still have yet to see wainwright and reyes.  To cheer everyone up, I'm going to post a picture I took this weekend.

Those of you who have been reading for a while may remember that I made a bet during opening day 2006 with a friend of mine that is a huge Red Sox fan.  If our team won the world series, then the other would have to grow a team-appropriate set of absurd facial hair.  They would have to wear said facial hair until opening day.  I held a party to commemorate this.  The player's hair that I chose was Scott Spezio.  The result was this:

That game was just depressing, so I'm signing of on this cheerful note for Wednesday.

With Wagonmaker on the mound!
Between your picture and getting to see Wainwright pitch seven innings, I'm cheered up already.

Good on your friend, there. I guess same bet this season?

JRod should be starting in right field
our defensive specialists -- and I use that term lightly -- have looked horrible.

Wilson is good for striking out and not much else.  Can we settle on one of Wilson, Taguchi and Schumaker and release the other two...bring up JRod and Marrero.

Looper looked good tonight -- quality start, you can't ask for much more than that.

i agree
i'll keep schumaker, tho for whatever reason i still think preston is going to come through in a big moment eventually. i don't know why, just an itch i guess.

He did get a hit in Game 1
that should have made it 1st and 3rd with 1 out and Pujols coming up.

He also 'almost' hit a HR tonight.

Walk your dog, not Pujols.

any other night
that's a homer. the very heavy 40 degree air kept that one in. unfortuanetly it wasn't heavy enough to hold beltran and reyes in.

As you know
I'm not a big JRod fan, but neither Wilson nor So could've possibly played any worse during this series.  3 games isn't enough time to determine that they've failed, but you'd have to think that their leashes are getting pretty short.  They were absolutely horrible and I don't know that Rodriguez would've been much better, but it's not possible for him to have been any worse.  There's little doubt right now that he's better than So, Wilson, and Skip.

it isn't based on just 3 games
it's based on spring training and last year too.  Look So, Wilson and Skip are all servicable 5th outfielders but we don't need ALL of them on the roster.  They are redundant parts.

Wilson has very little power left in his bat and no discernible on base skills.  Taguchi never had power and his contact ability seems to be eroding.  Skip is the better defender but by virtue of being left handed, they want to keep so 'slappy mcsingles' taguchi as well.  I'm not convinced that Skip can hit major league pitching but our OF is thin right now so whatev.

But why JRod isn't on this roster is still beyond me  -- and furthermore why Wilson, Skip and So are starting over Spiezio, Duncan and JRod is, imo, a defenseless decision (no pun intended).  They need a better OBP presence on the team but they shipped that player off to AAA and kept Spiezio on the bench.

What, I fear, will be forgotten
is that Looper pitched very well tonight.  He clearly ran out of gas in the 6th and made a couple of bad pitches to LoDuca and Beltran and then had nothing left for Alou and Green.  His location was very good and his stuff was good as well.  I was disheartened to hear boos when Beltran hit the homer.  It's unreasonable to expect him to pitch a shutout.  He pitched well and needs to get some help from his offense.

I thought they were booing Beltran
atleast, that was my take.

Rolen should have taken that ball from Just Enough and made the out.  Get out of that inning and see where we go from there.

Booing Beltran
I was listening on the radio and heard the booing. Text-messaged a friend at the game and he said the crowd was definitely booing Beltran as he rounded the bases.

He also told me that a couple in their twenties in front of him had a guy behind him thrown out of the park for yelling too loud and giving them a headache. (The only foul language he used was when he called Beltran a "pussy.") Weak.

Lack of Hustle
I thought I would never say this but tonight the Cards looked like they weren't even there.  Even David Ekstein didn't look like he was giving his all.  I hope they wake up and get over the glamour of the celebrations of the last two days and get down to business.  The outfield really has me worried the most.

great pic
that's awesome dude. pure awesomeness.

one last thought, LOOP looked great. this starting thing may just work out fine. IZZY looked good as well. our bullpen and outfield could be season long issues that turn into season long problems very very quickly.

in conclusion, is it too early for the team to pull a mark grace and go find a slump buster?
