Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

community projections XI: braden looper

seems like a new category would be in order here: games started (GS). otherwise, the usual. remember: mulder is supposed to return at midseason and bump somebody (not necessarily braden) from the rotation. . . . .

GS,IP,H,BB,SO,HR,W,L,ERA

oh, and here are looper's career stats.

Does anyone really have any idea
I have to say, he's been great so far in spring -- but he hasn't gotten to batters 3rd time through yet either.

21,115,124,29,59,10,8,7,4.44

Why not?  Maybe he becomes tradeable as an SP at the deadline!

I have reasonably high hopes
His spring has convinced me he can be decent.  He won't go very deep into games, though.

Deadline Trade
Will send him back to the bullpen. I'm thinking maybe Westbrook from Cleveland. But anyways for Mr. Looper-

Dunc's experiment
Well, now, ain't this one a shot in the dark? I'll give him roughly until Mulder returns.

if
if he could have a era around 4 that would be pretty good. as far as the other parts of the rotaion i think they already have their # 2 starter in wainwright. everybody has looked good in the spring.

personally i would feel more comfortable with looper as the 8th inning guy but it looks like now he is going to win the 5th starter job.

Call me crazy
I know it's only spring training, but he's been a groundball machine so far. If he can put up even league-average #s as a starter, it sure makes his damn contract easier to stomach.

(about 125 innings as a starter; the rest as a reliever)

Of course, this experiment could also be a total disaster. I'd say it's 50/50....
