not gonna argue with you..
But Tony really doesnt have a choice but to bring in a lefty here.
HA!

if TLR brings in a righty
Look at the stats.. that lefty/lefty matchup isnt so "stupid" afterall.
whaddya think..
one lucky hit...
none of those hits were well-struck, in the least.
And one out
I'd post something about Flores' splits
sigh... we have an extremely good balanced bullpen
they can't all be wainwrights - name a bullpen you think is better (cause I can only think of the Mets but they lost Sanchez)
i dunno what the splits say
I think they've been decent
but
There aren't a whole lot of non-closer
I'm not saying they aren't one dimensional. But when your starter goes 7 innings, you play to their strengths. On a list of people who did not perform up to par tonight, there is more than enough blame to be shared by the lineup, starter, etc.
The bullpen by and large has been good. One dimensional but with TLR using a bullpen they can usually be one-dimensional and succeed.

I love the Reds broadcast guys...
Let's pause, for a moment, and reflect. The 'lefty' against the 'lefties' has issued a walk and a ball hit to the warning track. So, is the idea that he is just starting to 'hit his stride'?
I think you go with the righty.

Duncan's trip to the mounds...
Duncan: "Jason, do you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal savior?"
Izzy: "Yes sir"
Duncan: "Yadi, and you?"
Yadi: "Yes sir"
Duncan: "Good, then unless you'd like to have a 'Come to Jesus' meeting tonight after the game, let's get an out..huh?"

by stlspecialsauce on Aug 9, 2006 10:10 PM EDT reply actions
Might as well forget about tomorrow's game
But hey, at least we're still in first place! :-(
Woooooow
Too many left on base, simple as that.
I'm not even mad, no reason to. I'm kinda use to it Izzy and walk offs etc.
Although, that one HR could very well mean the division.
Gotta keep rootin though.

Does anyone actually think
Also, in a similar manner, I wish we would instantly DFA these players:
Marquis
Flores
Miles
Johnson
I honestly think if we had neither of these guys in the bullpen and Tony couldn't do his lefty-righty-matchup thing, the 'pen would be better off. I'm just sick of the underachieving and the absolute failure to come up in clutch situations (see: LOB tonight).
The End.
Sometimes I wish I were a fairweather fan
As I said earlier, this series is really starting to feel like that 2003 last-season nightmare against the Cubs in Wrigley.
In fact, this season has felt like 2003 for a good while now.

Our closer...
And all this happens against the team we can afford to lose to the least. This team needs a kick in the dick.
The fact that the cardinals are in 1st really shows how bad the National League is.

we have him
you're right
Just realized
If it didn't have the makings of a loss before, it sure does now. We usually seem to play like crap on ESPN...
I'm new here and I am p-o'd
More to the point, I live on the West Coast and have the baseball package. Every game that I see in the new Busch Stadium seems like a funeral gathering. What is up with that?
Anyway, this is my first post and I am sick to my stomach about tonight. To make it worse, Houston and Milwaukee are kicking butt.
I hope tomoorow is better. I have to get up and watch it at 9:30 AM.
By the way... One more pain in my behind is Dan Mclaughlin who decides to announce the most foreboding circumstances just about 1 or 2 pithces before it happens. I hate him calling the games and think he should shut the h*ll up!!!!

New Busch Stadium
I'd give anything to be back in the Old stadium. That was my baseball palace. New place--phooey.
And part of it
I've been to six games. I love the place. But four of the games, they just plain got killed and pretty much didn't show up. That's not the stadium's fault there was no energy those nights.
The other two I thought were both pretty loud -- definitely loud enough.
Prices are high...welcome to corporate major league sports. Sucks, but it's reality. You can still get affordable seats with good views in the new stadium.
I've been to one game all year
The place seemed plenty loud to me, and it was the greatest game I've witnessed in person (live out of town so don't get to many games back home).
I don't blame the park. The park is gorgeous and we'll grow to love it.
I live out of town too...
Busch III should be nuked...

I want to believe in a lot of things. Instead, I find myself just so very, very tired. April seems so long ago.

Sigh
Where?
by Hardcore Legend on Aug 9, 2006 10:56 PM EDT up reply actions
sigh
I was at three games of the famous five-game series at Wrigley back in 2003, including the awful Simontacchi-started game where Sosa hit the walkoff. I had that thought that weekend. I had it again tonight.
I tend to be rather "sky is falling" about the Cardinals; I am aware. But still: Oooof.
We lost
We know this is not the 04-05 team. It's a team with more perilous flaws. Nonetheless, we are in first place in the division. Everyone step away from the proverbial ledge.
Tough loss, bad loss, a game we should have won probably ... but didn't. I'm excited to see Reyes pitch tomorrow.
besides
by trufansunite on Aug 9, 2006 11:15 PM EDT up reply actions
well...
to me, if Reyes wins tomorrow, then great. if not, well, the Reds have to go to Philly and play a suddenly good Phillies team while we get to knock around the Pirates. if we get 2 of those games we should still be okay when Cinci comes to town next week.
in many ways the second is bigger than this one: it marks Mulder's return, we'll have Carp going again, and if we can take 2 of 3 the division is still ours to lose, no matter what happens tomorrow.
How much you want to bet

I'm breaking up with my boyfriend
I was being "irrational" when I requested Isringhausen (whom, in spite of everything, I would still prefer to 99% of the closers in the MLB) stick his head up his own body part, pre-meltdown. Is it sad that the Cardinals winning/losing affects my general mood?
by heart cards on Aug 10, 2006 1:23 AM EDT reply actions
Even if it is sad,
You Should Dump His
(heh, can you tell I'm single and would LOVE a hottie who not only pulls as hard for my Cardinals as I do, but cares enough to post it on a blog?)
I do not think you were irrational at all in saying IZZY should shove his head up his butt. When he walked off the mound tonight he looked like he didnt even care. He should be punished for his crappy preformance tonight. And thats a fitting punishment.
And no, it is not sad that a win or loss affects your mood. It shows you are a true Cardinals fan. Every true fan feels the same way. Welcome to the club. Trust me, I am a bear to deal with when they lose. And a saint when they win. .
This one was my fault
Barrett in April.
Carlos Lee in April.
Matt Holliday in May.
Last week I picked up one David Ross.
My bad.
