i'm getting caught up right now
looks like a fitting game for this season's cubs-cards series --- bad fielding, strange plays on the bases . . . . . series now tied at 85 runs apiece.

by lboros on Aug 27, 2006 10:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah
But also some stellar plays by the Cards (minus a first inning misplay by Enc)

Let's win this
Hold the Cubs at 6 runs this evening and sweep them.

I'm starting to not like Spiezio very much. Maybe the fewer AB's are getting to him, but it seems like all he does is pop it up on the infield or strikeout.

by liam on Aug 27, 2006 11:01 PM EDT up reply actions

did you see
The usher escort that guy in the front row out after the play?  The replay clearly showed he did nothing wrong...  I hope they let him back in.

From what I saw on the boob-tube, none of the fans were doing anything wrong, plus the ball was in the seats anyway. Control freaks be all power-trippin'.

by liam on Aug 27, 2006 11:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Ejection...
He did nothing wrong... except dive on a kid going for a foul ball.  I'm conflicted on it though.  Half of me thinks he should be ejected because you always give kids the chance on a foul ball, but HE DID mess with Murton by doing what he did...

I'm betting he ran down the aisle...
...and he was either kicked out or told to go back to wherever he came from. He certainly had nothing to do with the play. Some kid caught the ball in the first row without leaning onto the field.

Harder to squeeze
with a LH hitter at the plate... if the pitcher sees the runner break off third, all he has to do is pitch out where the batter can't reach it, and the runner is dead out.  With a RH batter, the catcher has to catch the pitchout and THEN bring it back to the other side of the plate for the tag.

by aet15 on Aug 27, 2006 11:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Actually
It was Pujols who punched Bennett. I just found it online.

Eaton was immediately ejected, and Pujols, Padres catcher Gary Bennett and San Diego manager Bruce Bochy also were thrown out. During a brief confrontation Pujols punched Bennett in the face.

In his first comments about the incident, Pujols said Monday that he deserved to be kicked out.

"I threw the punch. I should have been," Pujols told the Post-Dispatch, adding that Bennett "said some things that I didn't appreciate. It's something where you react. It's part of the game."

audio question
Is there a way that someone can upload an mp3 of Mike's call?

by cardsfan84 on Aug 27, 2006 11:38 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah
I would like that and a copy of Edmonds blast against the astros in game six

Check the game multimedia later tonight on mlb
they usually have a radio call or two.

I've got Vin Scully telling us to remember the name "Chris Duncan".  And on the end of my Game 5 NLCS last year, I've got that 'Call of the Day' audio Sportscenter did.

Extend him now!!!
Great game - Enjoyed every minute of it.  This reminds me of the come from behind win against the Cubs in 04 when So had the amazing catch and Pujols jacked three out of the park!  Nothing feels better than a sweep of the Cubs.

Sadly enough,
All these wins only give them even more of a boost to start him to see how he's "progressing"

Well
It shouldn't be hard to progress from 9 earned in 3 innings.

Too bad that was the last game Sir Albert had that was good vs Chicago.

But forget that...what a great win.

4 or 5 days ago when Bennett got his first hit in this tear that he is on, I wrote that they were serving sno cones in hell because Bennett got that hit.  Now he is on a tear and with every hit, he is lovingly referred to as Sno Cones.  And personally, I like the idea of the Wild Turkey sno cones.

My Buddy
Makes those. He calls 'em bourbon slushies, though. Bourbon, orange juice, some other stuff—frozen in a big bowl. It's tasty stuff.

Oh, thanks
Doesn't surprise me that a Cub fan would want to take credit for something.  What else do they have to be proud of? Must suck to lose year after year.

weaver
although he wasnt great he has had 4 ND in STL 4

by punchinjudy on Aug 27, 2006 11:50 PM EDT reply actions

ive said it before
i think weaver has done a good job in stl, and honestly havent pulled for a guy more. You can tell he is very fragile though if something goes wrong he struggles immedieatly see the errors in the last 2 games. and bullpen just doesnt help the guy out. im sorry i know officialy that guy on 1st was his but i think it belongs to AW.

and the E in the first didnt help either. Id pay cheap for him next yr to stick around as a 4or5 Even sutcliffe pointed out how the E he starts thinking too much, is my arm slot right etc. Just my thoughts
