Mihlfeld NOT Named

http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/14781295.htm

Isn't it funny how we took harmless speculation and made it sound like a fact? Now, this doesn't make this go away, but if it turns out that Mihlfeld is NEVER named in anything, then I think everyone who started to doubt him needs to send him a fruit basket and maybe some candy hearts. I can't blame Deadspin for going with that, because it is a blog, but everybody just started to assume that it was the truth--Patrick, Olbermann, MSNBC--and that's wrong, wrong, wrong.

aaaaahhh
That article certainly makes me feel better. Maybe now we can go back to obsessing about Instant Breakfast and Yadi's bid for records in offensive futility.

yes, but
the article also says, "By the way, we feel obliged to -- once again -- clarify our initial report. A few facts:
  • There is no claim that Albert Pujols has taken HGH.
  • There is no claim that Mihlfeld was in any way a distributor of HGH, or steroids."
He also says that their source for reporting that Mihfield's name is listed in the report "has always been rated at 80%".

80%!?????  They're running with a report that has a 20% chance of being wrong?  We've been freaking out for a day over a report whose source is wrong 20% of the time and there's now there's a denial from the person implicated?

Sounds to me like people are looking for a way to implicate Pujols and they pulled this "six degrees of Jason Grimsley" game and seemed to get him.

I've had a sick feeling in my gut for the better part of 2 days.  I'm feeling a lot better now.

The right thing to do
is for MLB and the Feds to come out and stand up for the people who are being falsely accused in this matter. This is not fair to this trainer or to Pujols. According to this article, the affadavit simply mentions a former trainer and everyone jumped to Mihlfeld and eventually to Pujols.

I disagree
Making unneeded comments about an investigation always has a chance of compromising that investigation. But more importantly, the Feds shouldn't have to do anything, because they did nothing wrong. I say blame those who are making false accusations and presumptions, rather than the feds, because they created the problem and hold the responsibility.

agreed....somewhat.....
Yes, the feds did nothing wrong, i agree, but we obviously can't count on these idiotic members of the press to step up and say, "sorry, we made it all up to produce a story". I also understand that MLB and feds can't come out and give details, but they can say something along the lines of "mihlfeld is not mentioned in the affadavit as some reports indicate." It isn't their responsibility but It would be the "right thing".

i dont see why everyone is freaking out
from what i've read and heard, even yesterday people were freaking out over nothing.  EVEN IF pujol's trainer was naimed as supplying a source for grimsley to get HGH, that really isnt that big of a shock to me.  i tend to think that a lot of trainers would know where to get this stuff and again, not even yesterday on this site or other sites did a credible source say Mihlfeld ever gave out hgh or steroids.   we all just need to calm down and wait for this investigation to pan out

if Grimsley and his lawyer says
Mihlfield's name isn't on the doc, that's good enough for me.

my initial reaction is that while i love deadspin, and i don't mean this as a slam as it was a big scoop, but maybe need to consider the damage this stuff does before posting. though, if i were in their shoes i'm sure i wouldn't of done much better.

i dunno, i could be wrong, i'm sure my thoughts will sway back and forth as i consider all this stuff...
