top 20 prospects at minorleagueball.com

John Sickles posted his Preseason Top 20 Cardinals prospects along with grades, some commentary, and honorable mentions over at www.minorleagueball.com.  Obviously #1 is Rasmus, but the surprise #3 is Jon Jay.  Also former #1 pick Chris Lambert fails to make the list.  And thank god no Rick Ankiel on the list this year

not sure about jon jay
I don't see how he starts in a corner on a good team unless he develops some power. and to have that kind of disclaimer next to your #3 prospect is truly scary.

Incidentally, the Rob Deer comparison for Tyler Greene and the Ray Ray comp. for Daryl Jones have made me like those guys even more than I already did, though I'm not sure how Greene got that high on his list.

Jon Jay
I sort of agree with Sickels, he is under rated. I don't have him that high on my list, though Jay is only 21, and at 200 pounds he still could develop power.

I don't know how Greene got that high on his list, either. I'm not that crazy about Haerther, either. I like Stavinoha and Edwards better.

SS
Is that Khalil at SS? That'd be pretty interesting. I like that thought.
On with the youth movement!

I know I am Idiot
I am not as informed as the rest of you VEB'ers, but I saw the stats of Trey Hearneat Quad Cities.

12-3 with a 2.25era 106k's and a whip of 1.06 in 128 ip's.

Why isn't he on the list of prospects? Did someting happen to him?

i think Sillman
deserved to be higher on the list. 60% groundball rate, struck out nearly 14 per inning, held batters to a .95 WHIP. I know he's a little old for the A ball level.. he's a sidearmer, I could see him becoming a good set up man along the lines of Cla Meredith and Pat Neshek. 61 K/10 BB against righties, holding them to .148 ba.

Hawksworth
I was surprised to see Hawksworth so low. Everything I've read says his velocity is fine, if not as good as it was pre-injury. I could understand lower than Garcia but... 7th?

thin?
Their isn't a major impact player on the list, but I like the top eight on this list.  If four-six of them become everyday major leaugers, this would be a good haul from the system currently.

if anyone is interested...
i took a look at Sickels list of our top hitters, and their batted balls types...check it out at my blog. http://futureredbirds.wordpress.com/2006/12/26/a-look-at-batted-balls/

some interesting stuff about why Haerther's numbers were down this year, and that Greene kid showed some real pop for QC

How have these
projections fared in the past? Have they been pretty accurate on our farm system? Just curious.
