Jason Marquis
Glancing through some sports columns I looked at this one on MSNBC:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15858674/
It's about bargains on the market. Marquis is listed and the article says this
"On the plus side, he is 28, has averaged 14 wins and 201 innings over the last three seasons, and has an excellent curveball."
Excellent curveball? I'd be hardpressed to say that Marquis has an excellent pitch but a curveball??? He's got his bread and butter sinking fastball but I've never seem him throw anything that was more curve than slurve.
Also, can a pitcher that posted a 6.02 ERA with declining statistics for three years really be a bargain. Hopefully he's a bargain for the cubs...

What a joke
And put him in a good environment, "A National League Pitcher's Park". Duh. That's the best environment for any pitcher.

And for the record, if he can be had for one or two million for one year (maybe even three mil in this market), I'd say he is a good pick up for any team but the Braves and Cardinals.
Think about it, his past three years compare pretty damn well to Weaver, and most of Cardinal nation is drooling over that possible signing.
I have nothing against the guy. He was good to us in '04 and decent in '05. I wish him well against anybody but us.
I dont think he's been
Buh bye jason
Actually, in terms of results,
Jeff Weaver versus Jason Marquis

They have both been durable .500 pitchers, tho Marquis has overall been on better teams and logged a few fewer innings. Their ERA is similar as has been their WHIP. The big difference I see is that Weaver is much more inclined to strike someone out and that Marquis is much better at handling left-handed hitting. Marquis' 3year left/right OPS is 782/805. Weaver's is 897/639. This of course explains the similar results despite Weaver's additional strike outs.

Maybe I am oblivious or maybe I don't read
Anyway my oringinal point is that Marquis isn't a bad pick up if a team gets him for a few million over a year. The big problem I saw with him this year is he seems to think he has better stuff than he does. If he gets back to his game and pitches to contact, he will consistantly eat innings away and be a good mid to back of the rotation guy. And that would be a a bargain on most any team.
