That is funny.
It's so close to reality, it took me a second (well, it was easy when I got to Marquis, 1b) to tell it was a joke.

Even worse that I can make cracks about the starting lineup, and my team lost anyway.

Nice!
Had me going for a minute there too. But other than Mahoney at 3rd, I'd give it a shot. The way things have been going (here and in Chicago), I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see that lineup send home a win.

What makes you think it's a joke?
Marquis hits the snot out of the ball and fields pretty well too. He can borrow Mabry's first baseman's mitt.

Actually, Larry, I'm relieved to see your projected lineup includes Diaz. If I see that catcher-who-hits-like-a-pitcher standing at the dish in another RBI situation I think I'll puke. Mahoney's gonna set a record for most runners stranded in the fewest number of innings played.

Suppan swung the bat pretty well today.
How 'bout playing him in left?

Schadenfreude
You owe it to yourself to click on Bleed Cubbie Blue and read choice nuggets like this: I don't think I've ever seen as poor an exhibition of baseball as I saw in today's pathetic 8-2 loss to the Reds. There's just so much more to enjoy.

Even by Chicago standards, I think the Cub fan morale is pretty low right now.

Hey...
... it's Al from Bleed Cubbie Blue visiting.

You know what, that lineup would probably kick our butts tomorrow.

My buddies and I would laugh our guts out, too. Can you guys get Tony to use it? We could use a few laughs.

Welcome Al...
Gotta say your blog is IT for the CBA. I scan some of those blogs and others in MLB, and yours is by far second only to this blog run by The Fabulous LBoros. I'm no fan of your team (I'm one of the most vocal Flub haters here)and I know the feeling is mutual, but you really do your homework, know the history of your team, write well-written and interesting posts, and obviously do your best to keep your readers from giving up. Yours is the kind of blog that truly makes the "official baseball journalists" look like the dopes they are. Kudos. Now, let's see if our boys can't make that a 12-game losing streak for y'all.

Got a call
from a buddy who knows my alias and was put off that I rated Al's blog above some of our own (like Belly and Nilly, which I read every day and LOVE). My fault for not being clear--I was talking about blogs on The SB Nation network only--and I'll stand by that rating anytime. Satisfied, John?

i'd put
mabry in at catcher, and let diaz play 2nd..

How 'Bout Red....
He's on the trip, and I bet he can still turn the double play... at eighty-mumble!

How 'bout Fredbird?
Doesn't he deserve some playing time too?

our very own
bellyitcher had this to say, and i think it makes a lot of sense, lol:

It's just not fair. Are there some guys we can call up from AA for the weekend series with the Cubs?
