Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

Game 100 Open Thread: July 27, 2005

marquis             peavy
9-7, 3.88            8-4, 3.42

more trade gossip: bernie likes matt lawton of pittsburgh for his high obp (.387 this year; ~.365 lifetime). notes that eckstein is hitting just .210 this month with a .273 obp, hasn't drawn a walk in two weeks . . . . from the same thread: fla's juan encarnacion remains in play, as do eric byrnes and adam dunn.

the trade deadline is sunday. . . .

IF...
we get Lawton, does Eck drop to 7 or 8 in the order?

by Ryan Van Bibber on Jul 27, 2005 7:02 PM EDT reply actions

that's one idea
have lawton lead off, eckstein bat 8th. another idea is to leave eckstein where he is, hope he gets back on track, and bat lawton 2nd, drop walker to 5th or 6th in the order.

and in theory of course lawton wouldn't be playing every day; he goes to the bench once sanders and walker return, altho given the amount of rest all of those guys require, he'd probably still get a lot of starts.

i think he'd be a worthwhile addition, but not an ideal one. the drawbacks: 1) hits left-handed 2) bad outfielder.

nevermind
I just read Bernie's post. However, he's a left handed batter that's not great against the lefties, and my feeling is that this is an area the Cards need to improve on. Jeez, all this speculating is wearing thin.

Thanks for the list....
Almost as impressive as the Chicago talking heads' list of the people that Cubs "will make a serious run at".  In no particular order....

Aubrey Huff
AJ Burnett
"Every pitcher mentioned for the Red Sox."  (Seriously this is how the guy described it.)
Steady Eddie Guadardo
Jeremy Affledt
Mike MacDougal
Adam Dunn
Alfonso Soriano
Dany Baez
Jason Schmidt

After awhile, I was wondering if the guy was just pulling people out of a hat.

Its more gratifying to be a fan of a team that will spend money and get a deal done, but in today's "information" society it gets a little overdone.

No more ESPN for me tonight, I'll read a book.

Come on, Al
What was that?

You don't steal home from first. The ball had better be stuck in a corner if you're gonna try that. Let's have a LITTLE faith in Jed shall we?

Blatant second-guess...
Howcum Marquis was sent out to pitch the 9th?  He hasn't pitched a complete game all year, and was over 100 pitches after eight.  Okay, maybe he gets a shot at a win if'n he escapes the 9th, but as is, he pitches his tail off, and leaves with a loss.

Peavy was great, too, but this emaciated lineup ain't a-gonna scare too many folks...

Marquis
should not have pitched the 9th. WTF? I'd love to have seen him get his 10th, but...

Sadly...
I bet its because TLR wanted him to bat in the 10th.

argghhhh!!!!
for me, this one hurts more than sunday night.  marquis' best outing of the year and no win.

here's to carp shuttin' 'em down tomorrow.  considering we'll probably score only 2-3 runs tomorrow, carp's gonna have to shut 'em down.

matty fred is a weblog, too!
