Ozzie Smith XM Interview....

Ozzie Smith was on Baseball This Morning, the XM morning show.  I only caught the tail end of the interview where we bad mouthed the current Cardinals organization and said, "the reason Willie McGee stays away is because of the way they treated him."

Its my understanding that Willie has stayed away because he wants to raise his kids.

Anybody know anything about this?  I really want to see me Cardinal favorite back in the fold and hopefully at Spring Training some time soon!

By the way, Ozzie continues to be the most negative former Cardinal.  He really put a poor attitude on in his last years.

ozzie
has always felt that he was forced out by tlr, thus the bad vibes. i remember reading somewhere once that he said, and i'm paraphrasing, that as long as la russa was around, he would never become involved with the cardinals organization. which begs the question, will he be there to take down #1 at the last game this year?

i feel sorry
for the guy. he got his feelings hurt by tlr, pouted and sulked, didn't get the sympathy he sought, and is now viewed negatively by a lot of cardinal fans who once adored him. very sad

Yeah....
I know why Ozzie is ticked off, but what about McGee?

My main baseball beef with the Wizard is that he didn't go out gracefully.  Royce Clayton was the heir apparent, the Cards had a great chance to win the division, Royce should have been playing and Ozzie went public saying that he deserved the starting spot when his hitting was in a downward spiral.  Considering where his hitting started that's saying a lot!

He did say that he would take down the 1, but that Willie refused to do that for 51.

Willie
was at Spring Training this year; that doesn't strike me as "staying away."  I'd be very surprised if he refused to take down #51.

51 Game?
Anybody watch it?  Someone just told me that the broadcast team explained why Willie didn't do it, that he had a conflict.  Also, I was told that indeed he was an on field instructor for Spring Training.

Hopefully, this story will make the Post Dispatch so I can get to the bottom of this.  This pits my favorite Cardinal against my least favorite Cardinal.  Well, favorite I actually saw play in person.

yaknow...
i'm surprised someone like gibby hasn't pulled the wizard aside and told him to get his head out of his ass, swallow his pride, and come back into the fold. afterall, it was while he was with the cardinals that he became a real star.

I really think....
that Ozzie thinks he made the Cardinals or that they owe him.  Hasn't he figured out the reason that Musial, Brock, Gibson and the host of lesser saints have made their mark on St. Louis is because of what they did on the field but they have retained it and even magnified it because what they did AFTER it.  I go to games now with a Brock jersey on and I was born in 1977!  I see guys my age flipping out to meet Stan and shake his hand.

I'm not saying that Ozzie isn't appreciated, but I think his attitude will sour a lot of people and he thinks that just having the banner in right entitles him to anything he wants.  Even with people my age, you ask them their favorite Cardinal and will bet 4/5 will say Willie McGee.

Ozzie, NOBODY, is above the team.  Just remember that.

I have a question
i don't live in the st.louis area(I'm in VA), so I'm pretty much out of the loop as far as  the everyday goings on of the team. my question is, have dewitt, lamping et al made attempts to smooth things over with ozzie?
