complete nontender list
is here. cards nontendered bo hart, scott seabol, mike mahoney, and mike lincoln. larry bigbie to be paid $900K.
available players of possible interest:
eric byrnes, of: hits left-handers well, could platoon with bigbie --- which would be funny, because they were traded for each other last summer.
wade miller, rhp: injury reclamation project. his health is a major prob'm, he's prob'y more trouble than he's worth --- but the cards are said to be interested.
willie harris, 2b: i like him, for reasons stated here; good glove, promising on-base ability (btf's ZIPS projects him out to a .351 on-base pct in 2006). he might make a nice platoon combo with luna, but harris wants to play everyday and will probably sign somewhere else.
chad bradford, rhp: decent setup man once upon a time, will round out some team's bullpen for $750K --- prob'y not ours. but with dotel off the market, the list of candidates is dwindling . . .
josh fogg, rhp: career era is 4.74, career opp avg is .282 . . . .
junior spivey, 2b: cards will prob'y sniff around. at a quick glance, looks so-so with the glove --- rate2 is 100 (ie, neutral) for his career, and rf/9s have been consistently below league avg. career obp is nice, .354, but he's had a very uneven career w the bat . . . .
joe borowski, rhp: dfa'd, so not on the market for 10 days; he may be traded or waiver-claimed before he hits the f.a. market.

we signed Ponson?
Him?!
Marquis is lightyears ahead of this guy. I understand the Cards need OF, but if this in ANY way, shape or form guarantees 3O starts from Ponson it might be enough to drive me to drive drunk. Dear god. At least let Marquis light himself on fire on the mound (repeatedly) and let Ponson have TWO full seasons of Carpenter-like stats before you can even seriously think of him even approaching the status of oh-my-god-ponson-is-starting-tonight! accompanied by the look of terror in every child's eyes.

a midseason trade?
IMHO, this is a miserable signing and I think that Marquis has a much better upside. Does Ponson even crack thse starting rotation? I hope they aren't planning on using him over Reyes.

HOPE THIS MEANS WE GET AN OF SOON...
ARE YOU KIDDING???!!!
FIRST CUBS FAN THAT SAYS ANYTHING IS GONNA FIND THIS, HUGE, OVERWEIGHT KNIGHTED ARUBAN PUTTING HIS KNUCKLES WHERE YOUR TONSILS OUGHT TO BE...
NOW ALL WE NEED TO DO IS SIGN MIKE DEFILICE BACK, IT'LL BE LIKE ROADHOUSE!!!!!!
Evidently,
miller
I'm not saying Ponson's the man, but Miller couldn't assume a spot in the rotation until midway through the season and that's a HUGE if.
Stay away from Miller, unless he's willing to take a contract in Springfield.

Who cares about his weight...
For the love of all things Holy, I would prefer inertia to this signing.
Ponson..

Couple things
And my campaign to get Byrnes as part of an outfield platoon in Cardinal red continues. Byrnes-Rod I think would be pretty sweet, and Byrnes always is entertaining defensively ... at least if the Cardinals are up 10 games in the standings.
