Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Luke Scott homered and Chris Waters hurled nine scoreless innings to lead Baltimore over Toronto, 2-0, in the opener of a three-game set from Camden Yards.
Brian Roberts knocked in the other run for the Orioles, who have won two in a row.
Waters (3-3) completed a contest for the first time in his career, scattering four hits while fanning three and walking two.
Travis Snider doubled for the Blue Jays, who have dropped three straight games.
Shaun Marcum (9-7) took the loss, charged with two hits and a run over two- plus innings before leaving the game with right forearm numbness.
Baltimore picked up the game's first run in the third, as Castro walked and scored when Roberts followed with a double. Nick Markakis walked and Marcum exited due to injury. John Parrish came on and fanned Melvin Mora before walking Aubrey Huff. Ramon Hernandez, though, grounded into a double play to end the threat.
Scott's 23rd homer of the season gave the O's a 2-0 edge in the fourth, and Waters was in control from there.
The young left-hander surrendered singles in the fourth to Vernon Wells and in the fifth to Gregg Zaun. Snider doubled with one out in the eighth, but Waters rebounded to retire five of the final six batters he faced to finish the contest.
Waters' previous longest start was an eight-inning performance in a 3-0 win over the Angels on August 5...Toronto has won eight of the 13 meetings this season...Mora was ejected from the game in the third for arguing balls and strikes by home plate umpire Rob Drake...Toronto used six pitchers in the game.
